According to Barnes, the suspected shooter was found by police deceased in the building. She was identified as a 15-year-old student.

The shooter’s family cooperated with investigators after the shooting, the police chief said.

Police were working to find out “as many answers as we can” while interviewing witnesses and obtaining search warrants to get additional information, Barnes said.

Barnes said the shooting was confined to one room, but did not specify if it was a classroom. A gun was found at the scene.

The other deceased person was the suspected shooter, according to the Madison Police Department.

“This is something we all prepare for, but we hope we never have to,” the police chief stated. “We are still methodically clearing that school, clearing every vehicle and making sure there are no other threats to this community that we believe there are not.”
