Basketball star Timma reported dead in Moscow / Article

Lithuanian and Russian media reported that the body of the 32-year-old had been found, although accounts appeared to differ on whether he was found in a residential property or a hotel. The death was reported by the official news agency TASS. No cause of death was given.

As previously reported by LSM, Timma announced in October that he intended to play professionally in Russia despite the country’s invasion of Ukraine. His move sparked a backlash and signaled the end of his international career, as Latvian athletes are banned from participating in Russian sporting events as a direct result of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

“It’s something interesting to me,” Timma said at the time. “(I) Thought why not give it a shot?” He withdrew from the criticism of his decision. Media reports suggest that he had also experienced marital and emotional problems in recent months.

Timma, who played his first game for the national team in 2014, played 35 games for the Latvian national team and scored 338 points.

The last time Timma played for the Latvian national team was in the qualification tournament for the Olympic Games in Paris at the beginning of July.

In addition to being a professional basketball player, he is listed as part of a US registered fitness and nutritional supplement company FitSpace.
