Flash Flood Warning issued for counties in southwest Missouri

Springfield, MO – The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for several counties in southwest Missouri, in effect until 8 p.m. 7:15 Monday.

Thunderstorms have produced 1 to 2.2 inches of rain, prompting flash flooding concerns in Barry, Christian, Douglas, Lawrence, Stone, Webster and Wright counties.

According to the National Weather Service, flash flooding is expected to affect small creeks, streams, low-lying areas and urban areas, including roads and underpasses. Places like Nixa, Ozark, Monett and Mount Vernon may experience hazardous conditions. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and heed the warning: “Turn around, don’t drink.”
