Springfield, MO — Heavy rain and thunderstorms are affecting southern Missouri this morning, with the I-44 corridor seeing the heaviest downpours. Localized flooding is a problem through late morning, especially near shallow crossings and streams. Residents and commuters are encouraged to drive carefully and allow extra time on the roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, showers and thunderstorms will continue through mid-morning, primarily south of I-44. Rain amounts range from 0.5 to 1.5 inches, with isolated pockets of up to 2.5 inches. The risk of flooding is greatest along Highway 60 and nearby low-lying areas. Drivers should avoid flooded roads and be aware of rapid changes in conditions.

Looking ahead: Sunshine will break through later Monday, but temperatures will drop, with a high near 57°F and lows dropping into the 30s overnight. Tuesday brings increasing clouds and another chance for overnight rain, especially in southern and central Missouri. Highs will hover around 55°F, followed by gusty winds overnight.

Extended five-day forecast:

• Wednesday: Mostly sunny with temperatures near 46°F and cool nighttime temperatures dropping to 27°F.

• Thursday: Sunny skies return with highs in the low 50s and clear, calm weather overnight.

• Friday: Colder air moves in, keeping temperatures near 40°F and overnight lows near freezing.

Missourians can expect fluctuating temperatures throughout the week, so plan accordingly. Keep up with real-time weather updates and monitor travel conditions, especially in flood-prone areas.
