Will ‘Yellowstone’s Vippe’ Be In ‘6666’ Spinoff? How characters could return

(Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for Yellowstone Season 5 finale, “Life is a Promise.”)

Yellowstone brought the story of the Dutton ranch to a close in the season 5 (and possibly series) finale on December 15, revealing the fate of the Dutton family members and cowboys at the ranch (get a full recap here). The family had to lose the ranch to save it, but giving the land back to the indigenous people of the Broken Rock Reservation was unlike anything seen before on television and brought the prophecy of 1883 full circle. When the ranch was sold, the cowboys had to move on to a new beginning. Some of their endings allow select actors to reprise their roles in future spinoffs.

Although it has been a long time since there has been any update on 6666 spinoff, there has never been an announcement that the Texas-set series isn’t still going on. Bringing Jimmy (Jefferson White) back in Yellowstone this season reminded viewers of his character and gave updates on his life in Texas. Jimmy now works for Travis (played by series creator Taylor Sheridan) as a horse trainer, and Teeter (Jen Landon) also landed a job with Travis in the Season 5 finale. Teeter’s final scene showed her in Texas, watching Travis and Jimmy work and learn the ropes. She wanted a change of scenery after the tragic death of her partner, Colby (Denim Richards).

With such a long (and unpopular) focus on Travis in the penultimate episode of the season, you could argue that the Travis-focused episode was a backdoor introduction to the Texan spinoff. Although Travis doesn’t work for the Four Sixes ranch, his business in Texas—along with Jimmy’s connection to both of those worlds—lays the foundation for the series set in that state. Bringing Teeter into the fold adds another layer of familiarity Yellowstone fans.

Ryan (Ian Bohen), Walker (Ryan Bingham) and Laramie’s (Hassie Harrison) endings take them on the road and make room for them to appear in any Yellowstone future spinoff, even if only for guest star appearances. Ryan quit cowboying and reunited with Abby (country music star Lainey Wilson), whose music career was taking off. He joins her on the road while she goes on tour (Sheridan also does a reality competition series with Blake Shelton about country singers who go on tour). And Laramie must work on her rodeo career with the help of her boyfriend Walker (the actors are married in real life).

As for Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith), he helped Rip (Cole Hauser) dispose of Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) body and car after Beth (Kelly Reilly) killed him. He’s out of a job now, but we could see a world where Smith reprises his role in the Beth and Rip spinoff. Beth and Rip were able to ask Lloyd to come work on their new ranch in Dillon, Montana because of Rip and Lloyd’s close friendship. And as Kayce (Luke Grimes) said in the finale, one cowboy can argue with a cow and two cowboys can argue with two, but three cowboys can move a whole herd. Beth and Rip’s adopted son, Carter (Finn Little), would be their third cowboy if Lloyd joined them in Dillon.

The events in Yellowstone finale also makes it possible for any of the surviving characters to appear in the upcoming spinoff Madison. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Madison will be set in the present day in the Montana River valley, which is less than a two-hour drive from Beth and Rip’s new home in Dillon and Paradise Valley, where the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is located. Kayce, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) now live in the east camp on their family’s former land, now owned by Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham). All the characters in Montana could now easily appear in Madison. And if Beth and Rip are trying to modernize the ranch lifestyle and turn it into a sustainable business, it would be wise to work with other nearby (enough) ranches.

Yellowstone may be over, but the franchise looks far from done. We likely haven’t seen the last of these characters.
