College Football Playoff quarterbacks who entered the NCAA’s transfer portal

The College Football Playoff first round will be contested Friday and Saturday.

The inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff will feature four first-round games on campus: No. 10 Indiana at no. 7 Notre Dame (Friday — 8 p.m. EST), no. 11 SMU at no. 6 Penn State (Saturday – noon EST), no. 12 Clemson on no. 5 Texas (Saturday – 4:00 p.m. EST) and no. 9 in Tennessee at no. 8 Ohio State (Saturday – 8pm EST).

Quarterfinal games will be contested in the Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. No. 1 Oregonno. 2 Georgiano. 3 Boise State and no. 4 Arizona State has a first round BYE.

Prior to first-round games, student-athletes from playoff teams have entered the NCAA’s transfer portal in the winter NCAA Transfer Portal is open 9.-28. December for the 2024-25 school year.

Quarterbacks from College Football Playoff teams that entered the NCAA transfer portal are listed below.

Devin Brown (Ohio State)

Ohio State junior quarterback Devin Brown in The NCAA Transfer Portal. The 6-foot-3, 212-pound quarterback appeared in eight contests for the Buckeyes in 2024. He completed 10-of-19 passing attempts for 108 yards and a touchdown. Brown also recorded 13 rushing yards on seven attempts.

Ryan Damron (Tennessee)

Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Damron appeared in one contest for Tennessee during the 2024 regular season. He recorded no stats against Kent State on September 14 at Neyland Stadium. The 6-foot, 205-pound quarterback did not appear in any games and redshirted in 2023.

Preston Stone (SMU)

Preston Stone is in his fourth season at quarterback at SMU. He appeared in seven games for the Mustangs in 2024. Stone completed 30-of-51 passing attempts for 421 yards, five touchdowns and one interception this season, while also totaling 24 rushing yards on 11 attempts. He is expected to remain with SMU during the College Football Playoff.

Malachi Nelson (Boise State)

Redshirt freshman quarterback Malachi Nelson appeared in three games for Boise State during the 2024 regular season. He completed 12-of-17 passing attempts for 128 yards and an interception. The 6-foot-3, 193-pound transfer from USC totaled -11 rushing yards on two attempts.

Beau Pribula (Penn State)

Sophomore Beau Pribula completed 26-of-35 passing attempts for 275 yards, five touchdowns and one interception in 2024. He also collected 242 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 38 attempts. Pribula in NCAA Transfer Portal on December 15th.
