The Rams take over 1st place in the NFC West with the Seahawks’ loss

There’s a new team atop the NFC West standings. The Los Angeles Rams, who were 1-4 after five games, now lead the division with just three weeks remaining.

The Rams beat the San Francisco 49ers Thursday night, 12-6, improving their record to 8-6. The Green Bay Packers then gave Los Angeles a huge assist by beating the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, 30-13.

The loss dropped the Seahawks to 8-6, and because the Rams already beat them earlier this season, they own the head-to-head tiebreaker over Seattle. That means with three weeks to go, the Rams are in complete control of the division.

If they win, they are the NFC West champions.

Right now, the Rams are the No. 4 seed in the conference, with the Buccaneers the third seed thanks to a tiebreaker over the Rams.

The pivotal game that could decide the division is in Week 18 when the Rams host the Seahawks at SoFi Stadium. If Seattle wins that game and ends up tied with the Rams, the tiebreaker could come down to strength of victory.

The Rams’ final three games are on the road against the Jets and at home against the Cardinals and Seahawks, all of which are winnable.

Here is the updated position after week 15.

  1. Rams: 8-6
  2. Seahawks: 8-6
  3. Cardinals: 7-7
  4. 49ers: 6-8
