Raiders: Do you think Mark Davis will fire Antonio Pierce?

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis was asked to address his thoughts on the status of head coach Antonio Pierce this week.

Davis said the coach will be evaluated at the end of the season, and he clearly didn’t want to broach the subject with four games left in a disappointing season for his 2-11 team.

“Obviously, I’m very disappointed,” Davis told reporters, via The Athletic . “I want to see progress … There are no excuses … You have to get through the season and then we will reassess. Right now I am not in a position to assess anything straight forward.”

Davis said both Pierce and general manager Telesco will be evaluated separately. When asked why, Davis said, “They didn’t come in as a team. They’re individuals.” This allows for a change to occur in one of the positions and not the other.

The plan during the 2024 offseason was to hire a general manager and then a coach (to replace the fired Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler), which is the normal approach in the league. Still, Pierce was promoted from interim head coach to full-time head coach before Telesco was hired.

Complimenting the job Telesco has done, Davis pointed to the draft class and said he has done a good job. On Pierce, Davis said it was positive that the team is competitive and plays hard.

Still, his comments to the coach and GM seemed to have different tones. While Pierce could be confident, Davis’ comments made it pretty clear that he’s not entirely sure he’ll be back in 2025.

Davis said Telesco’s opinion on the upcoming rookie quarterbacks is important, he said
