Miami Dolphins fill Odell Beckham Jr.’s roster spot with Alabama prep alumnus

Miami The Dolphins waived three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham on Friday. On Saturday, the The NFL team added a wide receiver to its active roster – former Park Crossing High School standout Grant DuBose.

The Dolphins signed Beckham as a free agent in May, but he caught just nine passes for 55 yards in nine games with Miami. That pushed his career totals to 575 receptions for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns.

After spending last season on the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad, DuBose made his NFL regular season debut in the Dolphins’ season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 8 and had his first NFL reception against the Buffalo Bills on September 12. .

DuBose had been on injured reserve for Miami’s past 11 games because of a shoulder injury, but he will be eligible to play when the Dolphins face the Houston Texans at noon CST Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston.

DuBose started his college career at Miles before transferring to Charlotte. He entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Packers in the 2023 draft. This season, when Green Bay waived DuBose in the roster reduction between the preseason and the regular season, Miami claimed the wide receiver for its roster.

Two other players with Alabama football roots became eligible Sunday after being waived from the practice squads Saturday. Each NFL team can elevate two members of their practice squad to active status for each game.

Former Jacksonville State defensive end DJ Coleman will be eligible to make his NFL debut when Jacksonville plays the New York Jets after being elevated by the Jaguars.

Buckhorn High School running back Khari Blasingame has been elevated for the second straight game by the Philadelphia Eagles, who play the Pittsburgh Steelers.
