Patrick Mahomes has two TDs, Chiefs lead Browns 14-0 at halftime

Looking to go 13-1 on Sunday, the Chiefs hold a 14-0 lead over the Browns at halftime.

Things have been a little disjointed for Kansas City offensively with four points in the first half. But the club scored after recovering a Cleveland fumble on the first punt, with Patrick Mahomes finding JuJu Smith-Schuster for a 7-yard touchdown to capitalize on the extra possession.

Then things got going in the second quarter, with Mahomes finding Noah Gray for a 6-yard touchdown to cap a 14-play, 87-yard drive.

But Harrison Butker — in his first game back after knee surgery sidelined him for several weeks — missed a 29-yard field goal attempt wide left at the end of the half. The Chiefs had originally thought about going for it on fourth-and-1, but then opted to send Butker out there. The kicker did not have a holder or long snapper until late in the game clock, which could have affected the final kick.

Butker had never missed a field goal from 29 yards or less in his career entering the game 60-of-60 in the category.

Mahomes finished the first half 12-of-19 for 112 yards with two touchdowns and no picks. Cleveland’s Travis Kelce has three receptions for 24 yards.

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett suffered an eye injury rushing Joe Thuney — who plays left tackle — but was able to return late in the second quarter.

Cleveland failed to do much offensively during the half. Quarterback Jameis Winston is 7-of-13 for 52 yards with an interception through two quarters. Jerry Jeudy has five catches for 51 yards.

Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis recorded 2.0 sacks in the first half to help keep Cleveland’s offense at bay.

Kansas City cornerback Chamarri Conner had to leave the field after taking Nick Chubb’s leg to the head on an 8-yard run in the second quarter.

The Browns will receive the second half kickoff.
