Bruce Willis in huge health update after tragic dementia diagnosis | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Hollywood heavyweight Bruce Willis is in a “very stable place at the moment,” his ex-wife Demi Moore has revealed today.

The 69-year-old movie star, known for his roles in blockbusters such as Die Hard, has been battling frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a condition that has gradually impaired his ability to communicate. Despite the challenges, American actress Moore, who was married to Willis for 13 years before their 2000 split, shared an update today: “Granted, he’s in a very stable place at the moment.”

Moore, who famously starred in Ghost and shares three daughters with Willis, expressed her heartfelt approach to dealing with the disease during a conversation with British journalist Christiane Amanpour on CNN.

She said: “I’ve shared this before, but I really mean it so sincerely that it’s so important for anyone dealing with this to really meet them where they’re at, and from that place there’s such a love and joy.”

Acknowledging the difficulty of the situation, she stated, “I mean, obviously it’s very difficult and it’s not what I would wish on anyone, and there’s a great loss, but there’s also great beauty and gifts that can come out of it .”

This comes about 18 months after Willis’ family first went public with his health problems. Willis later remarried and tied the knot with actress Emma Heming Willis in 2009, with whom he has two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, reports the mirror.

The family has been transparent about Willis’ health, announcing in March 2022 that he had aphasia, which affects communication skills. Last year, his daughter Rumer gave an update confirming that Willis had received a “more specific” diagnosis of FTD.

The beloved actor has been forced to retire from his profession due to health issues, after establishing an impressive legacy of over 100 films during his career spanning more than four decades. He was honored with a Golden Globe Award for his outstanding performance in the American comedy drama Moonlighting back in the 1980s.

Since parting with Moore, who married and subsequently divorced Ashton Kutcher, the star’s family life continues to flourish. On the subject of maintaining a family bond after the separation, Moore, 62, said, “It’s been very important to me, even since Bruce and I were separated and divorced, is the recognition that we are a family and we will always be a family, just in a different form.”

“And that shape can evolve and change, and there’s a way for all of us to be in that shape. I’m thankful that it’s not just me. It’s going to take everybody coming together, and that’s great . I am truly so grateful.”

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is defined as a collective term for different types of dementia that predominantly affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. These regions are crucial for controlling aspects such as personality, behaviour, language and speech, as explained by Dementia UK.
