Storm winds create ‘eerie’ scene on top of giant French dune

The highest dune in Europe, perhaps unsurprisingly, proved the perfect place to feel the full effect of Storm Darragh’s powerful winds recently.

Storm chaser Alexis Berthelot describes himself as “passionate about weather phenomena”, which is why he went to the Dunes of Pilat south of Bordeaux on 7 December.

There he said he witnessed an “extraordinary sandstorm”.
