Jennifer Lopez pairs her lowest low cut jeans with towering heels

At first I couldn’t tell if Jennifer Lopez’s latest outfit was photographed on December 12, 2004 or December 12, 2024. Option two was the correct answer, but you’ll understand the short run in the time-space-style continuum when you see the Y2K denim trend she brought out of the warehouse.

Lopez spent her mid-December afternoon shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. Her mall hang came with an equally early aughts coded pair of jeans, an extra low waist with comforter stretch along both thighs and rhinestone detailing on the back pockets. On top, the singer opted for a sheer lace jacket with a high neckline, long sleeves and a strategically placed slit to show off her midriff.

I might as well imagine one Maid in Manhattan Lopez wears this look to shop like today’s J.Lo. After all, flares with hip-shining waistbands had their first moment in the sun two decades ago; so did their styling with tight lace tops. As for recent outfits, this was a dramatic departure from the boho chic Chloé set she wore Unstoppable press this week, or the backless sequin revenge dress she modeled on Instagram days before that.

Loving platform heels and tinted oversized sunglasses, along with a wavy blowout, completed Thursday afternoon’s throwback look. The only detail of the moment was her suede Birkin bag, part of the collection she’s cultivated as her star has risen.

At the same time, Lopez browsed the designer footwear section at Saks, Marie Claire‘s fashion team released a report on 2025’s denim trends. My fellow style editors studied the runways and saw no telltale signs that the 2000 low houses were coming back. Instead, Bermuda shorts and straight legs have gained the most traction. Plunge hems, baggy jeans were also present and represented – a style I know Jennifer Lopez likes to pair with tight tops. But the new year has not yet begun; there’s still time for the singer’s one-woman vintage denim renaissance to become a trend again.
