‘Malcom in the Middle’ is getting a reboot on Disney+

“Malcom in the Middle” returns to TV screens with a reboot set for Disney+.

The streaming service announced four new episodes in a series of posts on Instagram where they write “They’re back!” in the caption.

Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek will reprise their lead roles in the Disney+ show.

According to Variety, who cited the show’s official logline, the show will follow Malcom (Muniz) and his daughter, who are “drawn into family chaos” when his parents, Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek), demand that Malcom attend their 40th wedding anniversary party. .

Original series creator Linwood Boomer had a hand in the reboot and will serve as writer and executive producer, Variety reported. No premiere date has been set.

The original series aired on Fox from 2000-2006 and consisted of a total of 151 episodes. It won seven Emmy Awards over six years.

“‘Malcolm in the Middle’ is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, according to Variety.

“The funny and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome back the original cast to bring that magic back to life,” continued Davis. “With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks and mayhem that fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”

The Disney+ Instagram post showed Cranston and Kaczmarek in character shouting “Malcom!” In response, Muniz says, “Yes. I hear you. I’m coming!”

In a separate slide, Cranston noted that it’s been 25 years since the original version of the show first aired, and said he’s so excited for the reboot that he “might have peed. Just a little.”

Muniz said he’s been waiting for this moment for 18 years — since the show’s series finale — and he’s looking forward to finding out what Malcom and his family are up to now.

Kaczmarek also shared his excitement, saying, “What a pleasure I get to yell at that kid again!”
