Randy Moss a ‘cancer survivor’ after scary ESPN health absence

Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss revealed his recent battle with cancer during an Instagram live stream Friday.

“Your boy is a cancer survivor,” Moss proclaimed. “Was in hospital for six days. Just got out today – thank God!

The former NFL superstar thanked the doctors, nurses and fans who showed him some love as he recovered.

“I felt all the beans coming through there,” he said. “You prayer warriors, all my teammates. I’ve seen you, Everting, tweeting at me. All the prayers. All the well wishes.”

He promised to return to ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” — as soon as his recovery would let him back in the studio.

“I had cancer,” he said. “They found it in the intestinal tract, right between the pancreas and the liver. So my doctors … they went in, I had a six-hour operation. Dr. Martini, you’re the man, I had a Whipple procedure. I’m forever grateful.

“You best believe your boy made it through.”

He didn’t answer any questions on the broadcast, but apparently took a swipe at Larry Fitzgerald Sr., father of former Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald, and former NFL quarterback Brett Favre, both of whom wrote on X Tuesday that the elder Moss had been diagnosed with liver cancer.

“I told you guys I was going through something and I needed your prayers,” Moss said. “There were a few people out here trying to be doctors who weren’t doctors.”

Moss’ message came after his son, Thaddeus, on Wednesday shut down reports that the NFL great was diagnosed with the disease.

On December 6, ESPN announced that Moss stepped away from his role as an ESPN analyst for an “extended period of time to focus on a personal health challenge.”

It came after Moss said he was “struggling with something internally” and asked for prayers during “Sunday NFL Countdown” on Dec. 1.

“I’m just asking all the prayer warriors to put their blessing hands on me and my family through these tough times. And people were talking about my eyes last week,” Moss said before donning a pair of sunglasses in a video he posted on Instagram. “If you see me with these on… I’m fighting something, man, and it’s something internal. Your boy will get through it. I got a great team of doctors and got a great family around me. All you men, do your examinations and get your blood tests done.”

Moss, who did not reveal a specific illness, captioned her post with, “Get checked!! Prayer Warriors i need u” and four emojis.

ESPN said Moss has the network’s full support during this time and “we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”
