Kentucky Wildcats highlights, MVP and Twitter reactions to crazy win over Colgate Basketball

The Kentucky Wildcats took the floor Wednesday night aiming to avoid a hangover after their emotional 90-89 overtime win against Gonzaga over the weekend.

Standing in their way was a 2-8 Colgate team from the Patriot League. The Raiders’ last win came against UNC Wilmington before Thanksgiving.

UK was understandably the heavy favorite at 31.5 points before tipoff.

Unfortunately, the biggest story surrounding Kentucky basketball has been the health of their backcourt.

We now know that Kerr Kriisa’s injury will keep him out for several weeks, while starting guard LaMont Butler’s health remains in doubt.

Shortly before the game, Butler was officially suspended. Of course, it made sense to give him three days of rest in preparation for Saturday’s matchup with Louisville.

As for tonight’s game – it appeared to be over with the timeout at under 16 minutes…

Only it wasn’t.

Kentucky stormed out to a 17-0 lead and seemingly put the game away in an instant.

The Raiders had other plans.

After starting the game 0-10 from the field, Colgate caught fire and somehow went into halftime trailing by just two points.

Weather UK’s early blitz was truly impressive and left the Rupp Arena crowd frustrated and confused.

It didn’t stop there.

Colgate came out possessed in the second half, scoring from all over the floor while Kentucky remained cold.

The Cats trailed 47-46 with 15 minutes to play before back-to-back Jaxson Robinson 3s gave them breathing room. Both Trent Noah and Otega Oweh would connect from deep soon after, and UK never looked back en route to a 78-67 win.

It was a crazy game that is probably best just forgotten about. In a way, it was impressive to see Kentucky dig deep after two road games and still win the game by double digits.

The Louisville game on Saturday will be one of the biggest of the season, so hopefully the Cats can polish up their game.

Highlights

MVP

There was no major standout in Kentucky’s rollercoaster of a performance Wednesday night.

After starting the game 17-0 and giving up the lead, it took a team effort and some grit to avoid what would have been an abysmal loss.

I’ll give the MVP nod to Koby Brea for his hot outside shooting and reaching the 1,000 point mark for his college career.

Brea continues to light it up from deep, and tonight against Colgate, the Cats really needed it. Without his clutch shooting, this could have been a very difficult night to look back on.

Koby Brea went 5-8 from behind the arc and scored 17 points.
