Evans’ last appearance as Captain America was in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which seemingly brought the character’s arc to a close. But Downey Jr’s shocking return as Doctor Doom, which was confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, has seemingly opened all sorts of doors within the MCU.

Spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine

Notably, Evans made a brief appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine earlier this year, but not as Captain America. Instead, he briefly reprized his role as Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four films and was subsequently killed by Cassandra Nova.

End spoilers

Evans and Downey Jr. aren’t the only MCU veterans potentially on tap for Doomsday. Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of several Avengers films as well as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, are also confirmed to direct the new film. It’s all shaping up to be a big Avengers reunion as Disney tries to recapture some of the energy that made the MCU so dominant throughout the 2010s.
