December 8, 2024 is the day Taylor Swift ends her record-breaking Eras Tour. It lasted 22 months, spanned five continents, and grossed more money than any tour that had ever come before it, grossing more than 1 billion dollars in the first year alone.

On Outsidewe wanted to pay tribute to Swift’s Eras achievements through the lens of distance traveled, which, we realized, must also be superlative. And to be clear, we are not referring to the controversies surrounding her private jet. We wanted to know: How much ground did Swift—herself—cover during her 149 performances?

To get an answer, we devised a clever method to calculate how many steps she might have taken at each of her shows. We reviewed three different concerts from the tour, one from its beginning, the middleand end. Within each of the selected concerts, we watched ten randomly selected one-minute intervals and counted the number of steps taken each minute. This allowed us to calculate her average steps per show and generate a rough number of steps across all of her performances.

An average Eras Tour concert lasts about 3.5 hours, which is 210 minutes. We based our numbers on the average exhibition length.

Taylor Swift’s Era Tour by the Numbers

Here’s where we landed on Swift’s Eras Tour distance.

Miles travelled

Between dancing and walking across the stage, Swift took somewhere in the neighborhood of 657,090 steps during the entire Eras Tour. This equates to 329 miles traveled over the stage.

Race completed

It also equates to about 12.5 regular-length marathons, 6.5 50-mile ultramarathons, and 3.3 100-miles ultras.

Burned calories

Using the average number of calories burned per walked kilometers (which is 100), Swift used something like 32,900 calories – just in steps. That number is to say nothing of the other squatting, shuddering, and guitar-holding dances she did on stage, which also burned additional calories.

Traveled distance

Let’s put her steps on a map. Looking at the globe, Swift traveled a distance longer than the length of Scotland or the state of Massachusetts. She completed the stretch of the John Muir Trail, plus another 100 miles.

And she did most of it in thigh-high boots.

Our guess is that Swift is probably more impressed with the fiscal records she broke during eras or the meaningful interactions she’s had with her legions of fans. But let’s not lie, the 6.5 ultramarathon is also pretty cool.

Ryleigh Nucilli isn’t a self-proclaimed Swiftie, but she’ll admit to listening to “The Man” on repeat. When she’s not calculating the pedometers of musical superstars, she reads, writes and consults for digital brands.
