Lowcountry man wins $1 million Powerball prize in Mount Pleasant

A Lowcountry man is celebrating a $1 million win after buying a Powerball ticket during a routine grocery trip. The man who bought the ticket at the Publix on Johnnie Dodds Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, described the experience as “crazy and wild.”

He bought the ticket on a snack drive before sitting down to watch a football match on television. That night, his ticket matched the first five white ball numbers drawn in the Oct. 5 drawing: 2, 12, 46, 52 and 65, with a Powerball of 3.

The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said he is keeping the news of his win private and plans to save the prize money as a nest egg.

The odds of winning $1 million in Powerball are 1 in 11,688,054. For selling the winning ticket, Publix Super Markets #449 in Mount Pleasant received a $10,000 commission.
