Pre-Football Game Snack Run Leads to $1M in the lottery in Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) – The South Carolina Education Lottery says a Lowcountry man bought a lucky ticket during a trip to the grocery store in Mount Pleasant.

The lucky winner, who asked not to be identified, bought the ticket at the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Publix store, lottery spokeswoman Holli Armstrong said.

“It was crazy and wild,” he said.

He said he bought the Powerball ticket on a snack drive before a football game he wanted to watch on television, she said. That night, he won $1 million when his ticket matched the first five white ball numbers drawn in the October 5 drawing.

He told lottery officials who caught up with him this week that he has no intention of telling anyone about the prize and is keeping it as a nest egg.

For selling the claimed ticket, the Publix store received a $10,000 commission, Armstrong said.
