Did a couple really have sex on an elephant at that Miami Beach exhibit? What we know

A couple got a little too excited about an unusual public art installation in Miami Beach at the beginning of last week.

Page Six originally reported it a security guard caught two people have “high sex” at the “Great Elephant Migration,” 100 life-size sculptures of elephants that were installed on the sand near 36th Street Park for Miami Art Week. The amorous pair were atop one of the animals, which is made from a recycled invasive weed called Lantana camara by a team of craftsmen in India. The installation’s goal is to inspire conversations about coexistence with animals and conservation. Money collected from the sale of the pachyderms goes to support various environmental organizations.

This installation is part of a series of public art exhibitions being displayed throughout Miami in the run-up to Art Basel and its associated fairs.

A representative of the exhibition, which was organized by the Real Elephant Collective, confirmed the incident opposite Miami.com in an email.

“On Tuesday evening, a security guard heard strange noises and went over with his flashlight to investigate,” the representative wrote in an email. “Apparently he saw a couple having sex on top of one of the larger elephants. We don’t know how they got up there.”

The guard allegedly asked them to leave, they complied and no one was arrested. Lucky for them, because in Florida it is against the law to have intercourse in public. Charges may include indecent exposure or lewd and lascivious behaviorwith actual time behind bars involved.

In other words, get no ideas. Especially because security at the free exhibition, which runs until and including Sunday, has been tightened.

Fortunately, the fact that these dodgy individuals used the viral screen as their personal playground hasn’t affected foot traffic — or selfies.

“Thousands of people have visited and the exhibition has been very popular with influencers,” the representative concluded. “Everyone we talk to brings up the elephants.”
