For some of us, any day is a good day for a cookie. You have an excuse on Wednesday because it’s National Cookie Day.

Every year, National Cookie Day is celebrated on December 4th, however The National Day Calendar website does not give this date any historical significance in the annals of cookiedom. The site notes that the word “cookie” is derived from the Dutch word “koekie” meaning “small cake”.

But which cookie should you choose on this special day? When it comes to making holiday cookies, frosted sugar cookies emerged as the top choice (32%) in a December 2023 poll of 803 US adults conducted by Monmouth Universitywith gingerbread (12%) and chocolate chip cookies (11%) rounding out the top three.

Whatever your favorite cookie, you can choose to make your own or take advantage of deals and offers as part of National Cookie Day. Here’s a batch of them—and don’t forget to check your local bakeries and sweet shops’ social media accounts for additional deals.
