First Marvel Rivals battle pass accidentally leaks and it has the best skin

After weeks of back-to-back revelations, Marvel Rivals is almost upon us and we know pretty much everything we can expect on our plates. One thing that NetEase has not been so open about, however, is the match pass structure – apart from the fact that a new pass comes with each season. Well, wonder no more as the Marvel Rivals Season 0 Battle Pass was accidentally shared during an official live stream.

As part of the Marvel Rivals Pro Roundup live stream leading up to the launch of the multiplayer game, two content creators were invited to showcase two new Marvel Rivals characters. While Squirrel Girl and Iron Fist look like fun heroes, by far the most exciting news to come out of this event was a sneak peek at the Season 0 Battle Pass, officially titled ‘Chronovium’. About an hour into Necros’ stream, he accidentally lands on the Season tab on the main menu before suddenly moving on, but nonetheless revealing the first of seven pages in the shorter debut battle pass.

First, it’s been confirmed that the incredible Imperial Protocol Black Panther skin (the one with the fur collar) is included in the battle pass – on the first page, no less – and not reserved for the in-game store. The first page also features a matching name tag and sticker, a Punisher skin and a bundle of currency.

Perhaps more importantly, it’s clear that Marvel Rivals Battle Pass has taken notes from its competitors and is doing something different. You don’t have to go linearly through the pass; instead, you use currency to unlock only what you want, using an account currency that can be earned. Similar to Helldivers 2, this should cut down on both the grind and the mess as you hunt down your chosen rewards. Interestingly, in-game events (like Galacta’s Quest from the playtests) work much more like traditional battle pass systems.

The layout of the battle pass menu also suggests that they are permanent in some form. While there is a countdown to the end of the season, the oddly barren panel on the left with the Season 0 icon suggests that other passes could be held here, possibly for you to get rewards from previously acquired passes. Again, this is reminiscent of Helldivers 2 and Halo Infinite, which are often praised for their approach to seasonal content. However, this is also where you’ll find the Marvel Rivals event pages.

Luckily, we’re only days away from Marvel Rivals’ release date where we can put this system to the test. Keep in mind that Chronovium is much smaller than the real Marvel Rivals Season 1, which arrives about a month after the launch of the free-to-play PC game.
