Detroit Lions Week 14 Injury Report: Taylor Decker, 3 DL will not practice Monday

The Detroit Lions (11-1) are at home in Week 14, hosting the division rival Green Bay Packers (9-3) on “Thursday Night Football.”

With back-to-back Thursday games, the Lions’ training schedule has again changed from the traditional weeks. With a few extra days off after Thanksgiving, the Lions were back at work on Sunday and held a walkthrough that has become the standard way to start the week. On Monday, the Lions held a regular practice in an attempt to get things back to their normal pace as quickly as possible.

Let’s take a look at Monday’s injury report and update you with what we know. Note that any changes from last week’s report will be fat.

Damaged reserve/return

  • WR Kalif Raymond (hamstring) — damaged reserveeligible to return in week 17
  • DL John Cominsky (MCL) – injured reserve, could return in playoffs
  • LB Alex Anzalone (forearm) – injured reserve, could return after season or playoffs
  • LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (neck) — damaged reserveentitled to return at any time
  • CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring) — injured reserve, eligible to return in Week 16
  • S Ifeatu Melifonwu (finger) — injured reserve, eligible to return in Week 16

The Lions placed Raymond on injured reserve ahead of their game against the Bears, and he will be eligible to return to practice/game in Week 17 if healthy. The positive news is that he is expected to be able to return before the regular season ends.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Reeves-Maybin is now eligible to return to practice once he’s healthy.

The Lions also added linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo to injured reserve following knee injuries suffered in the Lions’ last game, but they will not be listed in this section as both players will not be able to return this season.

No practice

  • LT Taylor Decker (knee) — Missed Week 13
  • DL Josh Paschal (knee) – Injured in Week 13
  • DL Levi Onwuzurike (hamstring) — Injured in Week 13
  • DT DJ Reader (shoulder) — New injury

After initially being optimistic that he could play on Thanksgiving, Decker was still unable to practice the following Monday. While it’s far from ideal to start the week without practice, there’s still a chance he could be back in time to play, as Lions coach Dan Campbell noted Sunday.

“(He’s getting) better and better. You know, I still think he’s day-to-day,” Campbell said. “I think it’s going to come down to him whether he can go or not this week . It is definitely better.”

If Campbell can’t go, it will likely be Dan Skipper filling a starting role again.

Paschal and Onwuzurike were both injured in the first half of the Lions’ game against the Bears, and while they could both miss this game, Campbell didn’t close the door on a possible return.

“Paschal, it’s hard to say. Really, he and Levi are day-to-day,” Campbell said Saturday. “I think Paschal has a better shot (to play) than Levi, but I don’t know. I’m not really optimistic about either of them playing, but I guess Paschal has a better shot.”

Reader shows up with an unexpected shoulder injury on Monday. Because this injury was not previously known, Campbell has not yet been asked about it, so there is no solid news about it for now. We will have to wait until Tuesday for further updates.

Limited practice

  • CB Carlton Davis (hand, knee) — Missed Week 13, returned to practice

After being injured against the Colts and missing the Lions’ game against the Bears, Davis was able to return to practice this week. In his absence, the Lions have rotated Kindle Vildor and Khalil Dorsey into the starting role, but if Davis is able to play this week, he could give the Lions secondary a huge boost.

Full practice

  • CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring) — Missed Week 13, returned to practice

Moseley tweaked an injury during warmups on Thanksgiving, and the Lions didn’t want to risk making it worse and made him inactive. It appears to be the right decision as he was back on the practice field on Monday and is expected to be able to return to action this week.

“I think he’ll be good to go,” Campbell said of Moseley.

No longer listed on the damage report

  • RB David Montgomery (shoulder)
  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (knee)
  • CB Terrion Arnold (groin)

The players listed in this section are no longer listed on the injury report.

Montgomery and St. Brown was injured against the Colts, and while the Lions took it slow with them leading up to Thanksgiving, they both played a full set of snaps and seemed to escape the game without further issues. Arnold didn’t start against the Bears, but they quickly determined he didn’t require any restrictions and he played the rest of the game. All three should be good to go against the Packers this Thursday.
