Monaco’s royal family just debuted a surprisingly relaxed Christmas card

December has barely started, but already a royal family is getting into the holiday spirit. Today, Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco unveiled the family photo for their annual holiday greeting, featuring the royal couple and their twin children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

“The Princier Palace is pleased to share with you the image of the greeting card from the Princier family,” the palace wrote in an Instagram post together with the schnapps.

As has become a tradition for the Monegasque royals, the picture shows the quartet together in front of an elegantly decorated Christmas tree. However, this picture also marks a notable departure from previous years. While the royals have traditionally donned formal clothes for their annual passes, this year they took a more casual approach.

The family opted for cozy jumpers and trousers in coordinating neutral shades of white, tan, brown and cream, with Charlene wearing a heather fawn turtleneck with espresso brown trousers and boots, Albert topping a tan plaid button down shirt with a white fisherman sweater, and the twins echo their parents in a cream ensemble accented with gold foil for Gabriella and a taupe crewneck sweater with dark pants and boots for Jacques.

Compared to last yearwhen the family glams things up in velvet evening dresses and tuxedos, it’s noticeably more relaxed – in keeping with the minimalist, rustic decorations around them. The year before, the royals were similarly decked out in suits and dresses for their holiday photo, while in 2021 they sent out an illustrated portrait instead of a photograph after a year of challenge health problems for Princess Charlene.
