College football coach earns bloody forehead after headbutting player with helmet on

Arizona will host Arizona State in a season finale game on Saturday. There’s no love lost between these in-state rivals, and the Wildcats would love nothing more than to ruin the Sun Devils’ chances for a Big 12 title.

Before the game, Arizona assistant Chuck Cecil tried to get defensive back Owen Goss hyped up. Goss strapped on his helmet and then Cecil hit the defender on the head several times.

The result was a bloody forehead for the Arizona assistant coach:

Understandably, Cecil was encouraged by this game. The coach played at Arizona in the 1980s and was a consensus All-American in 1987. Cecil returned an interception for a 105-yard touchdown against Arizona State in 1986 in what is considered one of the greatest football games in Wildcats history .

Cecil rejoined the Wildcats as a coach in 2018. The veteran assistant has held multiple roles during that time and now serves as the senior defensive assistant.

It doesn’t look like Cecil’s motivational tactics helped the Wildcats much. Through 3 quarters, the Wildcats were in a 35-7 gap to their archrivals.
