Maryland strikes first at Penn State No. 4 with Big Ten title game on the line: Live Updates

FIRST QUARTER

Maryland 7, Penn State 3

8:08- After a quick start, both teams have traded three-and-outs. Penn State’s offense in particular just looks off. Nick Dawkins was tagged with a holding call on first down, denying a big play to Tyler Warren.

12:47- Well, Singleton had a nice 66-yard kickoff return to make up for his fumble, but Penn State squandered elite field position. Tyler Warren took a wildcat snap and gained just 1 yard, while Penn State used Kaytron Allen in the wildcat on third down and he fumbled a high snap. Kicker Ryan Barker knocked through a 49-yard attempt.

Maryland 7, Penn State 0

14:46- You guys can’t make this up. After Michigan topped Ohio State to give Penn State a win-and-in look at the Big Ten Championship game, Nicholas Singleton fumbled on Penn State’s first offensive snap and Maryland took over.

Maryland – with MJ Morris at QB in place of Billy Edwards Jr. – scored on his first game. A 25-yard deep ball to wide receiver Kaden Prather.

15:00- Maryland won the toss and deferred to the second half. Penn State starts with the ball.

STATE COLLEGE – Penn State and Maryland have taken the field to end the 2024 regular season.

The Nittany Lions and Terrapins kick off from Beaver Stadium at 3:30 p.m., with the game being broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

Penn State is 10-1 and ranked No. 4 in both the AP Poll and the College Football Playoff rankings, setting up the Lions for a home playoff game if all goes as planned the rest of the way. Fans’ eyes will also surely be on the Michigan-Ohio State game after its noon kickoff. If the Wolverines pull off the big upset over the Buckeyes, Penn State could book a trip to the Big Ten Championship game.

Maryland has struggled mightily this season with one Big Ten win and a 4-7 overall record. The Terps have some questions about whether starting quarterback Billy Edwards will play and how good he will look if he does go. That’s significant because despite Maryland’s struggles, the Terps are tops in the Big Ten with 289.6 passing yards per possession. match. Wide receiver Tai Felton leads the conference with 1,097 yards.

Stay tuned for notes and updates throughout the evening.
