Significant status update for Georgia Tech star QB

One of the unique challenges presented by Georgia Tech is that they have started using two QBs. They say if you have two QBs you effectively have none, but that may not be the case with Georgia Tech.

The Yellow Jackets have started using two quarterbacks as a way to keep opposing defenses on their toes, and they’ve been very effective at doing so recently. The two QBs for Georgia Tech are unique in that one is used more as a runner and the other is used more as a passer. However, one of their quarterbacks may sit during tonight’s rivalry game for an unusual reason.

A player in college football is allowed to play in four games and still redshirt, so that year does not count toward their eligibility. And it’s right here, Georgia Tech QB Aaron Philo currently sitting with one game left.

Philo has played in four games during his freshman season, and while he has been extremely effective of late, the Yellow Jackets’ staff may choose to sit him in order to preserve a season of eligibility.

This would make life for Georgia football and Kirby Smart much easier because now they only had to be ready to face one QB on Friday night. And it just so happens that Philo is playing the best ball of his career, so it would be nice not to have to play against him.

Last week, when Georgia Tech beat NC State, Philo completed 19 of 33 passes for 265 yards. The week before he rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Yellow Jackets’ upset win over Miami (FL).

Neither of those teams are now on the same level as Georgia’s defense, but it still shows how well Philo has been playing. So hopefully Georgia Tech decides to sit him because that would greatly increase UGA’s chances of winning this game.
