Tom Selleck has spoken freely about the possibility of losing his beloved California ranch following the cancellation of blue blood – and a source says the possibility is weighing on him as he moves into 2025 as he frantically tries to figure out his next career move.

“Tom has made a fortune over the years, but he insists his bank balance is nowhere near what people might think,” an insider tells Closer exclusively. “And the cost of running a 63 acre farm as a hobby is enormous, he’s a sensible guy, he doesn’t want to burn through all his money, in his opinion, if he spends the kind of money he needs to bring in. a substantial paycheck, otherwise it just doesn’t make sense.”

Tom, who turns 80 on January 29, currently lives on the ranch with his wife of 37 years, Jillie Mack.

“He certainly doesn’t want to downsize, but it looks like it might happen sooner than he’d like, especially since his health is also an issue, he’s not doing the work on the farm himself, but it still takes a ton of energy to handle it all,” adds the source. “He’s very attached to his farm, so if he actually decides he’s going to sell it, it’s going to be pretty devastating for him, he’s in his 80s, but he’s not close to wanting to just give it up heal and retire.”

In May, Tom said he feared he would lose his ranch property as Blue Blood’s fate was still up in the air.

“You know, hopefully I’ll continue to work enough to hold onto the spot,” he said during an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning.

Host Tracy Smith asked, “Seriously, it’s a problem? If you stopped working?”

“It’s always a problem,” the Magnum, PI replied the actor. “If I stopped working, yes. Am I ready for life? Yes, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

Since the interview was broadcast, CBS has confirmed it blue blood would officially end after 14 seasons on the network. The show’s series finale is set for December 13, much to the dismay of fans and cast alike.

Tom expressed his frustration with the show ending during an October interview with TV Insider.

“I’m a bit frustrated. Over the last eight shows, I’ve not wanted to talk about an end for Blue Bloods, but that it’s still wildly successful,” he told the paper.

“My frustration is that the show was always taken for granted because it was performing from the beginning. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” the Emmy winner added. “I remember I after the weekend (of filming the last episode) said, ‘I have to go to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Although many still hold out hope that their favorite blue blood characters will return in a possible spinoff, CBS has yet to make any official announcements about continuing the franchise.
