What Camila McConaughey thinks of Matthew’s tuna salad recipe

Matthew McConaughey may claim to be a “tuna salad master,” but Camila Alves McConaughey sets the record straight.

The model, who collaborates with Crock-Pot, told PEOPLE what she thinks True detective star’s internet-stirring creation.

The How to lose a guy in 10 days star told 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast hosts about his unique tuna salad recipe earlier this month in a now-viral clip.

“I’m a tuna salad master,” McConaughey began, before detailing to Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer the “long list of all kinds of things” that go into making “badass tuna.” “It starts with the base, you get the good tuna,” he began, explaining that he adds lemon, vinegar and mayonnaise mixed with wasabi to make the base. The list of fixings is long and extensive, from chopped red onions, finely chopped dill pickles, crispy jalapeño slices, apple, agave, corn and frozen peas.

Matthew went on to explain that it needs to sit overnight for the final touch. “As you know, as any redneck knows, is it better right then? Or is it better covered when you put it in the fridge the next day, it’s all coagulated, all the flavors are right, you’re sitting there, now I’m coming home.”

The internet was as appalled as Segura and Kreischer as clips of people recreating Dazed and confused the actor’s recipe, but his wife of 12 years supported her husband.

Before even being asked about the controversial tuna salad, the Women of Today founder told PEOPLE that Matthew makes a “good” tuna salad.

“He is a master of the tuna salad. Anyone who tries to replicate it doesn’t even come close,” Camila continued, careful to share all the tricks of Matthew’s trade. “But it’s not just a traditional tuna salad. He puts all kinds of things in there. I won’t give away his secrets because I don’t know what he shared.”

But when she heard that he had spilled the beans (or rather, peas) on the recipe, Camila raved about the dish even more.

While grilling steaks is Matthew’s “domain”, Camila shared how the whole family gets involved in the cooking.

“Everybody in the family cooks. Even my 11-year-old, he makes Sunday breakfast and stuff, he’s in charge of it,” Pantalones organic tequila said co-founder. “Everyone cooks, everyone helps clean. And when I need outside help, I get help too, because I feel like sometimes we need help and we have to ask for it. ”

The couple share sons Levi, 16, and Livingston, 11, and daughter, Vida, 14.

Alves, who partners with Crock-Pot, explained how cooking looks a little different in her house when it comes to game days.

The football-loving University of Texas family goes to the game when it’s a home game (“We don’t miss that!” Camila said), but stay in and watch TV when it’s an away game.

“We’re in the house and we’re cooking and gathering and the boys are throwing football cards left and right and I’m usually in the kitchen getting things ready,” she explained, adding that while she loves to cook, sometimes being a chef means missing out on the fun. “When everyone is watching the game, sitting, having a drink, passing footballs, having inside jokes and all that, then I’m in the kitchen. Then I clean up and fix things in the kitchen.”

When it’s just her cooking for a party, the right tools, like the Crock-Pot MultiMeal Multicooker, are essential for the mother of three: “I can do two things at once and have it ready.”
