Fans believe the Lions’ Thanksgiving drought is coming to an end this year

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. During the year, we ask questions to the most connected Detroit Lions fans and fans across the country. Register here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys

In this week’s SB Nation Reacts polls, we asked Lions fans two questions:

1. Are you sure the lions are heading in the right direction? (weekly poll)
2. Will this be the year the Lions end their Thanksgiving drought?

For the fourth week in a row, 99% of Lions fans believe the team is headed in the right direction. This is the sixth time the Lions have hit the maximum mark, the most times among all SB Nation fan bases.

It’s been seven years since the Lions claimed a victory on Thanksgiving, and with Detroit riding a nine-game winning streak, 86% of Lions fans believe this will be their year to end the drought. In addition, another 73% of national fans believe the Lions will not only win, but cover the 10.5-point spread set by the folks over at FanDuel Sportsbook.

To be honest, while 86% is a clear majority, I’m a little surprised it’s so low. Based on some explanations from the comment section to the original articleThere are lots of people who are concerned about injuries. But as I noted in my Article “Keys to Victory”.there are plenty of advantages the lions have over the bears and i think they should be able to overcome any loss due to injury.

Let’s take a look at some of the explanations from the comments section, lightly edited for length and clarity:

  • Kdog060: “With all our injuries, especially at the CB position, this will be a close game.”
  • Hankfan232425: “Yeah, I think the Lions win, but -10.5? Decker not playing against the Bears defense worries me. As great as Goff is, we need that starting O-line intact. “
  • DanCampbell SoupBowl: “The spread could be -20.5 and I’d still bet the Lions.”
  • Plush Quinny: “I don’t need style points. I’ve got to pile up enough W’s to win the division… 3-2, 37-36… All right by me.”
  • Empty Strap: “A nice 50 burger would go well with my brined chicken and fixins.”
