Louisville basketball kicks off the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis today against cross-state rival Indiana No. 15.

The Cardinals (3-1) and Hoosiers (4-0) will meet for the 22nd time in the opening round of the eight-team tournament at Atlantis Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.

First-year U of L coach Pat Kelsey goes for win no. 1 against a large opponent at the helm; while IU’s Mike Woodson will be looking for his alma mater’s third straight victory in a series that leads 12-9 dating back to 1921.

This year marks the first time since 2017-18 that Louisville and Indiana will square off in back-to-back seasons. They met last November in the third-place Empire Classic at Madison Square Garden; a game now mostly remembered for Kelsey’s predecessor, Kenny Payne, saying Woodson “fooled” him by using a zone defense to spark the Hoosiers’ late surge to a 74-66 victory.

The cards will play either no. 4 Gonzaga or West Virginia in Round 2 of the Battle 4 Atlantis. If they beat IU, they’ll play at noon on Thanksgiving Day. If they lose, they play at 2:30 p.m

On the other side of the bracket: no. 23 Arizona, Davidson, Oklahoma and Providence.
