Bayern Munich vs PSG: Gamethread and Live Blog — Bayern start 2nd half 1-0

46′: PSG manager Luis Enrique delivers a smart onside kick on a ball out of bounds. The ball is in your court, Vincent Kompany.

46′: 2nd half underway. The only thing that could make this game more enjoyable is more goals.

Champions League half time score

Half-time observations

  • This game is played at the sprint pace of an U21 game. Very vertical, very exhausting, very entertaining. Look for Bayern to slow it down with possession in the second half.
  • Kudos to Jamal Musiala for taking Safonov’s place at Joshua Kimmich’s corner but avoiding contact.
  • Harry Kane struggles with the frantic pace. If he was a bit sharper on a couple of those passes in the final third, Bayern would have had another couple of quality breakaway shots.
  • It’s crazy that Kingsley Coman has been able to get behind Achraf Hakimi multiple times, purely on speed. Sané might find a tap-in on the other side if he can make parallel runs.
  • Matvey Safonov has been shaky at best. Bayern may be able to coax another mistake out of him to put this game out of reach.

45’+2: Joshua Kimmich gets a chance outside the box, but the keeper swallows it.

45’+1: Manuel Neuer easily handles a volley from outside the box.

41′: Kingsley Coman gets behind Hakimi, but the volley barely clears the crossbar. Bayern are pushing hard for another goal before the break.

38′: GOAL!!! Matvey Safonov’s poor clearance falls straight to Kim Min-jae, who heads it in.

32′: PSG find some space on the counter attack but Dembele is unable to beat Neuer. The rebound is blasted a yard wide.

28′: Kingsley Coman weaves his way through the defence, but the left-footed shot is just wide.

20′: Dembele gets a steal in the final third but the shot rolls weakly to Manuel Neuer.

12′: Konrad Laimer sets up Leroy Sané for a fine opportunity, but Sané’s one-timer is not enough to break the deadlock.

7′: Jamal Musiala somehow finds himself alone in the middle of the box but hits it straight at the keeper.

1′: CCCHHHAAAMMPPPIIOOONNNSSSS!!!

Leroy Sané will make his first Champions League start of the campaign. Sacha Boey and Mathys Tel are both coming back from injury but are available. Expect to see Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise enter the game around the 60th minute.

With both teams at the top of their domestic leagues but struggling to find wins in Champions LeagueBayern Munich host PSG in a contentious rematch of the 2020 final. In 2023, Bayern shut out PSG twice to advance to the quarter-finals.

Will history repeat itself? Or are PSG ready to hit hard, strike first and show no mercy?
