Liverpool v Real Madrid: Team news

“Trent is in the squad, but he will not be available to start,” head coach Arne Slot explained during Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.

“He might take a couple of minutes, in an ideal world he might not, but if it’s really necessary he might take a couple of minutes tomorrow, but he won’t start.”

The Dutchman added: “Federico is not in the squad yet. He is training with us, not the whole session, but mostly one or two parts of the session.

Harvey Elliott is in the team but hasn’t played competitive football for a long time – so he’s there, but obviously not ready to start.

“Alisson isn’t there yet, Diogo isn’t there yet, Kostas isn’t there – he’s got an injury too, so it’s quite a list for us as well.”

A yellow card for both Ibrahima Konate or Alexis McAllister in this match they would be suspended for Liverpool’s next Champions League clash – away at Girona.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real will be without their top scorer, Vinicius Jr.at Anfield due to injury.

“When he doesn’t play, we have to expect something else,” Slot said. “I think he played almost every game for Madrid, so again it’s quite difficult for us now to understand what to expect.

“But what we know what to expect is 11 players with good quality and we are trying to prepare them in the best possible way.

“Will (Jude) Bellingham play as 10’s? Will he play from the left? Will he play from the right? Will Endrick come in? Will (Arda) Yellows start? They have so many options that now it’s a little harder for us to see what they’re going to do. If Vinicius would have been fit, I think I would have come with their line-up, but now it might be a bit of a surprise for us.

“But what we know is that we play 11 good players in a very good team.”

Several other senior players, including Dani Carvajal, Your Militao, David Alaba, Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygowas also not part of the 19-man traveling squad Los Blancos announced Monday.
