Baton Rouge weather: Cold front arrives on Thanksgiving | Environment

A cold front is expected to sweep through southern Louisiana on Thanksgiving Day, bringing cold temperatures, wind and potentially freezing weather to some areas through the weekend, according to National Weather Service forecast.

NWS lead forecaster Phil Grigsby describes a “mild” Thanksgiving ahead with showers and temperatures in the mid-70s. But by Thursday night, the front will move through Baton Rouge, dropping temperatures into the upper 40s.

The Baton Rouge metro could even experience a light freeze Friday night into Saturday morning.

The Climate Prediction Center said in a forecast Monday morning that temperatures could develop below average across Louisiana through next week.

Here’s the forecast for Thanksgiving Day through the weekend:

Baton Rouge

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with highs in the lower 70s and lows in the mid 40s. Wind gusts could reach as high as 20 mph during the day and evening.

Friday: Sunny, with daytime highs in the upper 50s and nighttime temperatures around 40 degrees.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with highs in the lower 60s and lows in the mid 40s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with temperatures near 60 degrees.
