Morgan Freeman, 87, looks sprightly in a lively appearance after sparking health concerns

Morgan Freeman has stepped out looking fresh as he enjoyed dinner with loved ones in California.

The 87-year-old Oscar winner, who sparked concern last December, appeared in rude health as he strolled along the path outside Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica.

He kept things casual on Sunday night in a gray checked shirt and dark trousers with comfortable sandals.

His look was completed with a navy baseball cap to provide a measure of anonymity in the celebrity haunt.

Freeman also wore a cream-colored compression glove that he uses to relieve the symptoms of nerve damage he suffered after being rescued from a car accident in 2008.

The Shawshank Redemption star is seen more often than not now wearing a glove, which he wore during an appearance last month on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

He was also shown wearing it while filming for an upcoming project with his producing partner Lori McCreary in a photo on Instagram.

“Just another day at the office,” McCreary had captioned a photo that showed Freeman standing in a smart blue linen suit in a living room, his hands – one covered – carefully clasped behind his back as he faced the camera.

Freeman has been open about how his condition affects his daily life and tells Esquire in a 2012 interview: ‘It’s the fibromyalgia. Up and down the arm. That’s where it gets so bad. Excruciating.’

Last December, he had fans worried when he appeared to be treading carefully as he gingerly got into an SUV with a companion at hand after an appearance on the talk show The View.

The video ended up going viral as people wondered about his health – despite the 86-year-old having performed a very smooth slide into a large vehicle and not needing help at hand.

“Morgan is in good health,” a rep for the star later confirmed.

Although Freeman may not be seen outside of promotional appearances, the star has a very busy schedule.

He was on hand in September to present fellow acting legend Clint Eastwood with a special award at the 2024 Monterey Jazz Festival.

Next to a picture of himself in a casual suit and Eastwood in a checked shirt and fleece, with McCreary in the middle, Freeman wrote on Instagram: ‘It was a great pleasure to present my friend Clint Eastwood with the first Clint Eastwood Award for Cultural Leadership at the @MontereyJazzFestival last weekend.

‘Clint is a true musician: pianist, composer and a jazz lover! We had a wonderful time listening to the incredible music of Kyle Eastwood and Mavis Staples!’

The pair starred together in Eastwood’s 1992 Western Unforgiven, as well as collaborating on 2005’s Million Dollar Baby – the film Freeman won his Oscar for – and 2009’s Invictus, in which Eastwood, 94, directed Freeman as Nelson Mandela.

So far this year, Freeman has appeared in My Dead Friend Zoe and Gunner, as well as season two of Lioness opposite Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana.

He also has a return in Now You See Me 3 as Thaddeus Bradley on the slate, which is set for a November 2025 release.
