MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Active weather including several cold fronts will keep the weather changeable through the Thanksgiving holiday and into the week.

TODAY

A weak cold front will move into the Carolinas later today. Ahead of the front, a surge of warm air will send afternoon temperatures around 70. The front will be accompanied by a band of mostly cloudy skies and isolated showers. Periods of mostly cloudy skies will be likely throughout the day, but overall rain chances are low – just 20% for most areas and 30% for areas west of I-95.

THROUGH GRATITUDE

The first cold front will push off the coast Tuesday night, resulting in a calm day over the area Wednesday with plenty of sunshine and slightly cooler temperatures in the lower to mid 60s.

ONE second and much stronger front will begin to approach the area on Thanksgiving Day. Once again, much milder weather will spread across the region ahead of the front, pushing Thanksgiving Day temperatures into the lower 70s.

Based on the latest data, the front will appear to move through during the afternoon and evening. As it does, scattered showers may develop and even possibly a thunderstorm or two. The front will be strong enough along with favorable upper atmosphere winds that a few severe storms may develop over the Carolinas. Right now, any strong or severe storms appear to be very isolated, and a LEVEL 1 severe weather risk is in place Thursday for most of the Carolinas including the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.

As the second cold front moves offshore Thursday night, it will usher in much cooler air. Black Friday shoppers will be greeted with temperatures in the 40s, but chills likely in the 30s. Despite clear skies Friday, temperatures will remain cool with afternoon highs only reaching the mid-50s.
