Former Titans Coach Mike Vrabel’s Story About Urban Meyer on ‘ManningCast’

Owen Wilson shared an amusing story about Monday’s “ManningCast” about former college and Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer failing to recognize him at a football game with familiar flags.

Previous Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel was able to highlight the movie star during his appearance on the show.

Vrabel told co-hosts Peyton and Eli Manning that he could “keep in touch with Owen Wilson,” to whom Meyer had asked, “Do I know you?”

“I was working out Titans and he trained Jaguarsand he actually said the same thing to me,” Vrabel revealed. “I said, ‘Yeah, I’m the head coach of the Titans and I worked for you for two years.’ “

In fact, Vrabel was a member of the staff during Meyer’s first two years at Ohio State. Vrabel served as the team’s defensive line coach in 2012 and 2013 before taking a job as Houston Texas‘ linebackers coach.

Given the close connection, Vrabel’s story drew laughs from the Manning brothers.

“It’s like his line, I guess,” Eli said, chuckling.

Vrabel delivered the story with a smile, perhaps seeing it as a way to make a joke at the expense of his former employer and peers.

Or maybe Vrabel finally demanded a measure of revenge for the notoriously short handshake Meyer gave him after the Titans beat the Jaguars in 2021.

Of course, it’s worth noting that Meyer said at the time the two were “really close” when processing the incident.

Either way, Vrabel’s story got a boost from the Manning brothers, putting him in the same scene as Wilson. That made for a pretty good night for the former Titans coach turned Cleveland Browns consultant.
