More rain is expected in the Boise area. Here’s when and how much forecasters expect

The Treasure Valley can expect a wet weekend as a low pressure system moves in from the west, bringing moderate rain to Boise and snowfall to the mountains.

While the high temperatures are expected not to exceed 50 degreesthe Sunday forecast shows a break in the rain, according to the National Weather Service in Boise.

Here’s what’s on tap, according to the Weather Service.

How much rain can Boise expect?

Saturday is expected to bring moderate rain with possible thunderstorms during the morning, before scattered showers during the afternoon. Boise can expect to receive between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, except for heavier amounts of rain possible during thunderstorms.

Boise has received nearly an inch of rain this November as of Thursday, according to online weather data from NOAA. The normal amount of rain during November is 0.79 inches, but Boise has received 0.94 inches.

However, these storm systems are typical for this time of year, according to meteorologist Stephen Parker.

“The system we just finished experiencing was much wetter than an average system. There were places in the mountains that got between two and four inches of liquid equivalent, which is what you would get if you melted all the snow,” Parker said. “So this latest storm was very wet, but the storm coming this weekend is a pretty typical storm.”

The expected high temperature on Saturday is near 50 degrees and a low of 30 overnight.

Areas at higher elevations can expect to see snowfall on Saturday as well, according to Parker. As a cold front moves through Bogus Basin during the morning, the rain is expected to change to snow. During the afternoon, the ski area can expect a mixture of scattered rain and snow.

Sunday is expected to be dry and mostly sunny all day with a high of 47 degrees and a low of 30 degrees. Although there is a low chance of rain and light snow during the evening and Monday morning, the weather service says.

The forecast for Monday shows a 30% chance of precipitation during the day, with a higher chance during the evening. The high temperature is expected to be 47 degrees and a low of 32 degrees.
