Ryan McCartan, an accomplished actor and singer, previously brought Fiyero to life in the 2018 Broadway production of Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. Fans were stunned when McCartan revealed he was auditioning for the live-action version of the character.

Reflecting on the experience, McCartan said, “Jon (M Chu), you didn’t cast me in the movie even though I worked so hard. It’s fine, no hard feelings. Confirmed that I auditioned… One of the many, many things I have not booked.” (via J-14)

Spencer Sutherland

Another well-known singer-songwriter and actor, Spencer Sutherland, was also close to playing Fiyero. Sutherland, who was a contestant on The X Factor in 2017, later gained recognition for roles in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Afterlife of the Party. In an interview on The Zach Sang Show, Sutherland revealed that he received callbacks after auditioning for Fiyero.

“I thought.. when I got a double callback, it was like, ‘Oh, sh-t, this is real. How many people do they have left?’ Probably 20, but still not bad. I don’t know the number,” he said.

Nick and Joe Jonas

Surprisingly, both Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas auditioned for the role of Fiyero in Wicked. Nick Jonas recently sat down for a chat on the Armchair Expert podcast, where he revealed the details. Although he didn’t exactly mention which role it was, fans were quick to speculate that it must have been for Fiyero Tigelaar.

“We both auditioned for the same role, Joe and I. It was actually for Wicked. And we went into it… and obviously we’re brothers, we’re competitive in sports and stuff, but when it comes to our careers, I think we both really looked at each other as…” Jonas said.
