Ali Larter praises ‘Landman’ intimacy coordinator, but notes filming sex scenes never ‘gets easier’

After 25 years, Ali Larter is still not used to filming intimate scenes, but she appreciates the new era of safe environments on set.

The Farmer star recently opened up about working with Paramount+ the show’s “amazing” intimacy coordinator Mam Smith on her scenes with the co-star Billy Bob Thorntonand notes that she finds intimacy at the site “horribly uncomfortable.”

“It’s horrible. I wouldn’t even say it’s easier when you’re 19,” Larter told Yahoo Entertainment after making her whipped cream-clad breakout performance in 1999. Varsity Blues.

“You know, at this point I’ve been carrying two babies,” she said. “So I think if you still want to see it, let’s go.”

Although she doesn’t feel like filming intimate scenes “will ever get easier,” Larter was excited about working with Smith, “she’s there with us the whole time. They shut the sets down.”

Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Farmer Thornton stars as oil company crisis manager Tommy Norris, who tries to bring his company to the top amid a fuel boom in West Texas, which is overrun by roughnecks and billionaires trying to get rich quick on oil rigs.

Late contributor Farmerthat premieres Sunday on the streamer, as Tommy’s “passionate and hot-tempered” ex-wife Angela, who wants him back. She noted that the intimacy made sense of their dynamic.

“I just feel like this was very warranted in the character and this is who (Sheridan) wrote, so I wanted to be able to go there for that. And I wanted to feel confident going into it,” she explained.

The actress also praised Sheridan, Thornton and the director Stephen Kay to make her feel comfortable on set. “I love being able to play someone who was kind of provocative and could also show herself to be so vulnerable and raw,” Larter added. “You kind of have to hold on for life when you see Angela.
