Eagles News: Saquon Barkley leads the NFL in tackles at the 1- or 2-yard line

Let’s get to Philadelphia Eagles left…

Inside RB Saquon Barkley’s contract incentives with Eagles – NFL.com
When Saquon Barkley signed with the Eagles, he knew what he was getting — a great offensive line, a chance to make the playoffs … and maybe a clinching touchdown or two. In fact, while Barkley is headed for a career year, poised to eclipse the 1,312 yards he rushed for in 2022, he has “only” eight TDs — thanks in part to the tush push. Interestingly, as sources explained this week, Barkley’s three-year, $37.8 million contract was designed for this very experience by having a total of zero dollars in incentives based on touchdowns. With good reason. According to NFL Research, Barkley has been tackled at the 1- or 2-yard line 11 times this season, most in the NFL. Many of them end up with Jalen Hurts scoring, which doesn’t hurt Barkley’s bottom line.

Why is Saquon Barkley turning into Superman at halftime? – NBCSP
Barkley is enjoying a breakout season in his first year with the Eagles, and with seven games left in the season, he’s on pace to break a slew of franchise records and win a slew of postseason awards. He leads the NFL with 113 rushing yards per game, five more than Derrick Henry, and his 5.8 average is just behind Henry’s 6.0. But the crazy thing about his season is that Barkley never seems to get going until the second half. And in some cases – like Thursday night against Washington – only in the fourth quarter.

10 Takeaways from NFL Week 11 – BGN
1 – The Eagles’ defense against the Rams’ offense should be a good matchup. Vic Fangio’s defense has been pretty stellar since the Eagles’ Week 5 bye; his unit has allowed just 11.3 points per game. game and 190 total yards per fight since then. That defense will be tested by one Los Angeles Rams offense that averages 24.8 points per game and 370.3 yards per game since Puka Nacua returned to the starting lineup in Week 8. Granted, it was against New England Patriotsbut Matthew Stafford is coming off his best game of the season. The 36-year-old completed 66.7% of his passes for 295 yards (10.9 avg.), 4 TD, 0 INT and a 142.7 passer rating. Stafford has only taken four sacks (all in Week 10) over the past four weeks. He has the third-fastest average time to throw this season at 2.62 seconds. We saw the Eagles struggle with quick releases when faced Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in week 4.

Mailbag: Can Eagles catch Lions for 1 seed in NFC? – PhillyVoice
Question from @aerelorn: Based on the remaining Lions/Eagles schedules, what do you think the chances are of passing them for the 1 seed? (…) In my opinion, each team has 4 tough games left. The difference is that three of the Lions’ tough games are at home, while three of the Eagles’ tough games are on the road. But beyond the schedules, the Lions are beating teams right now. For what it’s worth, Unpredictable offers the following 1 seed odds: Lions: 73%, Eagles: 15%, Vikings: 8%, Packers: 2%, Commanders: 2%. It feels just right to me.

Rating the Eagles – Iggles Blitz
That said, the Eagles have shown the ability to take over games. The defense has been suffocating and the offense is dangerous when it finally gets going. I know some people are still nervous about last year’s meltdown. This team is different. Put players and stats aside. Just look at how this team has handled adversity. Jacksonville got the benefit of a very questionable (if not terrible) call and it turned the game around. The Jags had a chance to win at the end, but the Eagles made the play that closed the game. The Eagles had some tough luck against WAS and trailed at the end of three quarters. The team never wavered. They scored three straight TDs to take control of the game. 2023 Eagles found new ways to lose. The 2024 Eagles have found ways to win. The defense keeps games close and then the offense comes alive to blow them open. It’s a very different team. As it turns out, the Eagles had a great offseason. It has helped the team get off to an 8-2 start and place at the top of the league. The Lions still look special, but it would be fun to see what the Eagles could do against them. Maybe we’ll get that chance in January.

Rams vs. Eagles: LA a field goal underdog for Sunday Night Football – Turf Show Times
There’s a reason Philly has a six-game winning streak, and I don’t see the Rams being able to keep up with them offensively. Saquon Barkley is on an absolute tear, and as well as LA’s young defensive end has performed over the last month, I’m afraid they’re in for a long night. Barkley will prove too much as the Eagles roll to their seventh straight win to stay in contention for the NFC’s top seed.

Sean McVay: There is a “risk/reward” with Puka Nacua’s aggressive play style – PFT
“Luckily, he’s OK. He’s a stud. You talk about those things, but I think it’s a fine line when you have to make decisions on the fly, and so many of the decisions that happen happen so quickly , that it’s more instincts than anything else. You don’t want to take away one of his elite traits, you just want to continue to train him to take care of his body. So in some of the practice environments, understand the give and take where we might can be smart with some decisions that makes you susceptible to those kinds of collisions or things like that.” Nacua’s fearlessness makes him special. But that fearlessness can get him hurt. As McVay said, there’s a fine line between playing at a ridiculously high level and playing with the kind of reckless abandon that can destroy the body.

Dallas Cowboys vs Houston Texans: Dallas blew again 34-10 for 5th straight loss – Blogging The Boys
Well, it wasn’t fun. The Dallas Cowboys took another big home loss, this time on Monday Night Football in a 34-10 rout from Houston Texas. But while the result wasn’t all that surprising, Dallas is limping out of it with even more injuries and no relief in sight. Texans RB Joe Mixon dominated the game with 153 total yards and three touchdowns. To his credit, especially after last week, Cooper Rush had 354 passing yards when Dallas gave up the run early. But with just one touchdown on the night, the volume was mostly empty as the Cowboys couldn’t finish drives and committed two turnovers. Now Dallas has a short week to get ready for a road game against Washington’s commanders. With injuries to over half the offensive line and a concussion to TE Jake Ferguson coming off tonight, the Cowboys may not have much left to contend with for the rivalry.

The sky is literally falling at Cowboys stadium as sheet metal crashes from the roof – SB Nation
The Cowboys opened the roof of their stadium for the first time in over two years, and it immediately caused a massive piece of sheet metal to crash from the rafters and crash into the ground below. It is more than fortunate that no one was injured in the incident as dozens of people gathered on the field, especially along the sidelines ahead of the Monday Night Football game against the Houston Texans. Another video shows exactly how many people were on the track when crews began to open the roof.

3 takeaways from Giants benching Daniel Jones, moving to Tommy DeVito – Big Blue View
Three straight wins, including a game against the Green Bay Packers in which Devito completed 17 of 21 passes and led a late scoring drive to a game-winning Randy Bullock field goal as time expired. DeVito was a phenomenon. A kid living at home with his parents while quarterbacking the Giants. A local hero with fans waiting in long lines for his autograph. The nickname ‘Tommy Cutlets’ was born and sandwiches were named after him. That ended when the Giants lost their next two starts and Tyrod Taylor was reinstated at quarterback. Now the Giants are hoping for part 2. “We’ve been with Tommy here for a little bit. He’s done a good job, I’d say, throughout training here. But we also have something to lean on by going back and watching him operate some of our stuff from last year,” Daboll said. “I’m excited to see what Tommy brings to the table. Tommy has been on the mend since he’s been here. Trust Drew again. Just felt this was the right step to take.”

New York Giants bench QB Daniel Jones — now what? – ESPN
Are the Giants now locked into taking a quarterback in the 2025 draft? Who are some early names on the radar? With Jones likely playing elsewhere in 2025, the Giants will actually be looking for a franchise quarterback in the offseason. ESPN’s Football Power Index has New York projected to land no. 4 overall, which would potentially allow it to take Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. Ward – my current QB1 ahead of Sanders – is an electric playmaker who can make throws from all types of arm angles. His ability to create inside and outside structure stands out, even if it sometimes gets him into trouble. Sanders, on the other hand, is a polished pocket passer who can put the ball where he wants. He has an average arm, but his balance, field vision and toughness make him the best pure passer in this class.
