Eagles pass rusher Blades with lower body injuries vs. Rams | Will he return? (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Josh Sweat is back against the Rams.

###

Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat appeared to suffer a lower-body injury against the Rams during the third quarter. Sweden walked under his own power to the medical tent and remained on the sidelines after being evaluated.

If Sweat’s injury is significant, it could affect Philadelphia’s No. 1 negatively ranked NFL defense.

The Eagles placed edge rusher Bryce Huff on injured reserve this week, leaving them with four healthy pass rushers. Sweat has been the Eagles’ most consistent pass rusher this season, collecting five sacks through 11 weeks. He finished with his sixth sack of the season when he brought down Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in the second quarter.

With Sweat out, the Eagles will rely on Brandon Graham, Nolan Smith and rookie Jalyx Hunt to get after Stafford. Late in the second quarter, Graham sacked Stafford on third-and-9.

Graham now ranks third all-time in Eagles history with 76.5 sacks, trailing only Reggie White (124 sacks) and Trent Cole (85.5 sacks). After a slow start to his career, he has become one of the franchise’s most iconic figures.

Now, the Eagles are hoping Smith can have a similar career. After a rough rookie season, Smith has played better this season, finishing with 3.5 sacks and 24 tackles prior to Sunday’s game. Hunt, whom the Eagles drafted in the third round of the 2024 draft, will have to make a bigger impact with Huff out and Sweat potentially sidelined.
