Why did Jimmy Johnson say he thought Dan Quinn would be Cowboys head coach?

In the wake of the Dallas Cowboys’ 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the 2023 NFL playoffs, ex-Cowboys coordinator Dan Quinn told FOX NFL Sunday’s Jay Glazer that he was unsure if he would ever be offered a head coaching job again.

“Going into that game he was one of the top names on every single list for all the openings, after that game he only had two in-person interviews,” Glazer said. “(Quinn) said…”I’m not going to lie to you, I was in a really dark place, had a really hard time with this…I thought I was never going to get another shot.”

Jimmy Johnson said without the loss that he thought Quinn would have been the head coach of the Cowboys

“I really think if Dallas had played better defense against Green Bay in the last playoff game, Dan Quinn would be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys right now, but that’s in Washington’s favor,” Johnson said.

In his first season with Washington, Quinn has led the team to a 7-2 record, good for second in the NFC East, after finishing last season with a 4-13 record.

According to Draft Kings, Quinn is one of the leading contenders for NFL Coach of the Year with the sixth-best odds to win the award.
