IPL mega auction: Mitchell Starc takes massive pay cut, sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 11.75 crore

NEW DELHI: Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 11.75 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah on November 24 (Sunday).
In the 2024 IPL auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had acquired Starc for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore, which was a record at that time.

Starc has played 41 matches across three seasons in the IPL and has taken 51 wickets at an average of 22.29 and an economy rate of 8.21.
Starc made his IPL debut in 2014 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and in that season he played 14 matches and took 14 wickets at an average of 28.71 and an economy rate of 7.49.
Starc’s best bowling figures in the IPL came for RCB in the 2015 season when he took 4/15 against Punjab Kings (PBKS). This was arguably Starc’s best IPL season. He was the standout bowler for RCB and instrumental in their campaign.
In the 2024 IPL season, Starc played 14 matches and took 17 wickets at an average of 26.12 and an economy rate of 10.61.
While Starc is one of the most sought-after bowlers in world cricket, his IPL career has been somewhat limited due to injuries and national commitments.
Starc has missed several IPL seasons due to injury and as a key player for Australia, his availability for the IPL has often been affected by international schedules. Starc opted out of some IPL auctions to manage his workload.
Starc was signed by KKR in the 2018 IPL auction for Rs 9.4 crore but had to withdraw from the tournament due to a stress fracture.
Starc had opted out of the mega auction in 2022 despite being in good form to prioritize his international career.
