CT weather: Snow could affect Thanksgiving travel plans, forecasters say

Connecticut has seen almost no precipitation in the past few months leading up to Thursday’s rain and snow storm, but that is expected to change during the busiest travel time of the year.

Accuweather.com said Friday that a new storm could bring “accumulating snow” to parts of the Northeast on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but if the storm tracks further south, the Northeast will see a “less intense storm” with some lighter rain and snow possible, according to forecasters.

Of course, no specific predictions have been made this far out, but if you’re planning to travel around Thanksgiving, it’s something to keep an eye on. Currently, Accuweather.com is predicting that Connecticut will see snow showers on Thanksgiving Day along with cool temperatures.

“A storm has the potential to snarl transit for those traveling locally across parts of the Midwest and Northeast on Thanksgiving Day, even those chasing Black Friday deals may struggle with travel challenges,” said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tyler Roys. (Read more at Accuweather.com.)

WFSB 3 TV Meteorologists said the holiday week will begin with sunshine and temperatures in the mid-50s on Monday. Some showers are possible Tuesday morning and more sun later Tuesday with temperatures in the mid-50s again.

“Wednesday, one of the busiest travel days of the year, looks dry and bright. However, it will be cooler (seasonally) with temperatures between 45 and 50. Thanksgiving Thursday, for now (and this is a time frame of interest), has a chance of scattered rain/snow showers with highs in the mid-40s,” WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. And as the National Weather Service correctly says regarding northern Connecticut Thursday and Friday.

“There is some uncertainty in the details, although there appears to be enough colder air in place to allow for some wintry weather opportunities Thursday and/or Friday, provided there is a favorable storm track.”

And for southern Connecticutsaid the National Weather Service, “a more organized low pressure system approaches the area on Thanksgiving from the southwest. Too early for sensible weather specifications so far out with timing and strength differences. . . .”
