Nasty Friday with rain, snow and cold in the DC area – NBC4 Washington

Storm Team4 is in weather alert mode Friday as the DC area braces for steady rain, sharp chills and wet snow.

Light snow began to fall at 11 a.m. in DC, Maryland and Virginia (Got a snow or weather photo to share? Upload it here!).

Enjoy these snowflakes while they last because Storm Team4 says nasty weather is on the way.

“I’ll give today two out of ten,” said meteorologist Chuck Bell.

Wind chills will be in the mid-20s and 30s, and highs will only reach the low to mid-40s. Meteorologist Amelia Draper said it will feel more like January than November. It’s also the coldest day since mid-February, so bring out your waterproof winter gear.

Weather radar: When to expect snow or rain in the DC area

DC can expect rain by noon and the possibility of wet snow in areas north and west of Washington. The rain is likely to continue through the afternoon and into the evening.

The most likely time for snow is when the storm arrives, around But don’t get excited about a winter wonderland: any snow will melt when it hits the ground.

Snow flakes are possible as far south as southern Montgomery County, Maryland.

By late afternoon and evening, the entire DC area will see nothing but rain.

Thanksgiving forecast

The weather will improve for the weekend and holidays leading into Thanksgiving.

The weekend will be windy, but seasonable with temperatures just a few degrees below the average high of 56.

Thanksgiving and Black Friday still look cold and wet. A more significant cold front will arrive the weekend after Thanksgiving, keeping temperatures at least 10° below average for the first week of December.
