Moana and Maui are back for a new animated musical adventure. “Moana 2” opens in theaters on Wednesday, Nov. 27, just before Thanksgiving Day.

The Walt Disney sequel to 2016 movie features returning cast members and music by Grammy Award winners. “Moana 2” is expected to be one of the biggest movies to hit the box office around the Thanksgiving holiday with a projected five-day opening estimated at $135 million, according to Deadline.

The Disney sequel officially hits theaters on Wednesday, November 27, though showtimes may be available in some theaters the day before.

What is Moana 2 about?

According to Disney, three years after the original film, Moana and Maui reunite for an expansive new journey with a crew of unlikely sailors. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the distant seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever experienced.

Did Lin-Manuel Miranda write songs for Moana 2?

While Miranda wrote songs for the original Moana film, the songwriter and actor did not write music for the second film, according to several reports. TikTok stars and songwriters Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear will make history as the first female duo of Disney composers, the BBC reported.
