November 22 Slushy snow settles into central Maryland this morning

Report Friday morning

This first winter storm pattern has been shown to get colder with each computer model run. The snow mix proposal for the northern suburbs is now simply snow. This is expected to start at sunrise over southern Pennsylvania and approach northern Maryland.

Temperatures are near or just above freezing, but the early hours can still lead to some problems…

The snow may catch up early enough to cover the ground with 1 to 2 inches, mostly on the grass, but some wet roads into northern Maryland until 8 p.m. 10:00 a.m.

Snow will fall around Baltimore after 8, but with temperatures above freezing, roads should remain wet.

The mix with and even all rain will be further south.

A winter storm warning is in place for the high mountains of western Maryland and West Virginia. Snow accumulations of 1 foot are expected, along with 50 mph winds.

This low pressure system is stacked with a pool of Very Cold Air Aloft… which will allow it to sit and spin almost in place for most of today.

The snow was approaching Harrisburg and York, PA, around 10 p.m.

This will continue to expand to the south.

Snow 6 to 12+ inches with winds gusting to 50 mph.

Note that this is above the extreme drought region and is much needed.

REPEAT MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I realize there are some spelling and grammar mistakes and occasional other mistakes. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer errors I may miss. I’ve made a few public statements over the years, but if you’re new here you might have missed it: I am dyslexic and found out during my sophomore year at Cornell University. That didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

One of my professors told me that I had come this far without knowing it and not to let it be a crutch going forward. It was Mark Wysocki and he was absolutely right! I miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make matters worse. I can also make mistakes in forecasts. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.

There has been no editor to check my work while you write and to have it ready to air in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of web team which helps me maintain this page. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is free. It could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and maybe prove that what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
