Nate Silver says Biden should resign

Pollster Nate Silver said President Biden should resign in a post on the social platform X on Wednesday.

“Is there any particular reason to assume that Biden is competent to be president right now? It’s a very difficult job,” Silver wrote in his post. “It’s a dangerous world. Extremely high decisions in Ukraine. He should resign and let Harris serve the last 2 months.”

Silver’s post also included a screenshot of a report from The Washington Post, and a link to the article. The Post’s reporting centered on Biden’s relationship with the press as he prepares to leave the White House. According to the Post, Biden did not spend much of his time speaking publicly during his recent visit to South America.

Biden has faced questions about his age and mental fitness throughout his presidency, but they especially increased in recent months after a tough presidential debate performance against President-elect Trump.

The questions and fears about Biden’s age and mental fitness ultimately led to him being replaced at the top of the Democratic ticket by Vice President Harris. She lost to Trump about three and a half months later.

Jamal Simmons, a former Harris aide, also recently called for Biden to step down so the vice president could have taken the role for a short time.

“Joe Biden has been a phenomenal president; he has lived up to so many of the promises he has made. There’s one promise left that he could fulfill: to be a transitional figure,” Simmons said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“He could step down from the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris the president of the United States,” he continued.

But few Democrats agree, at least publicly. Late. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) scoffed at Silver’s proposal Wednesday.

“Senator John Fetterman urges Silver to stop bad polls and immediately takes,” Fetterman said Wednesday the X, in response to a headline from The Daily Beast about Silver’s post.
